A 15-minute housing estate is a concept where all residents can fulfill their most important needs within a 15-minute walking or cycling distance from home. At ROBYG, we have been successfully implementing this concept for several years, caring for development, health and integration of local communities as well as for the environment by limiting the need for car travel.

By developing 15-minute housing estates we are promoting the work-life balance philosophy. Carefully planned, smart and multi-functional areas offer a wide range of amenities in the closest vicinity, including coworking spaces for residents, without leaving the estate. It significantly reduces the need to move to farther parts of the city.

Everyday
balance

A human being is able to cover 1 kilometer on foot in 15 minutes, without any rush. We should be able to find the most important points on the map of everyday life:
shops, schools, services, as well as places for recreation and relaxation within a thousand steps from the place of our residence. In order to be able to reach them in a short time, there must be infrastructure that favors micromobility.

Towards
micromobility

The width of sidewalks, the location of zebra crossings, availability of bike paths, and even the number of trees planted along roadways that provide shade during hot days and protect from the wind in autumn and winter – they all influence our decision to choose to walk, cycle or scooter over driving a car. That’s why when we design our 15-minute estates comprehensively, we include amenities for both pedestrians and cyclists, such as bicycle sheds, stands, as well as stations that make it easy to repair bikes.

Local community
integration

Integrated neighborhood areas are conducive to building neighborly bonds and integrating local communities. Use of local services and shops support the activities of small entrepreneurs. Schools and kindergartens neighbouring the estate allow saving parents’ time. Not only the inhabitants benefit, but also the environment.

with nature

Nature is an integral part of our projects and we pay great attention to it during the design process. Wildflower meadows, rain gardens, and the right amount of trees support the harmony associated with the 15-minute housing estate. All of this, in addition to building insect hotels and birdhouses, ensure the right balance between effective work, private life and care for the environment.
